IAC has officially concluded the 2026 Spring County Officials Institute (COI) tour! Building on the success of last fall’s expanded format, this year’s training was once again held in six locations across Idaho to reduce travel demands for members and increase accessibility statewide. More than 250 county elected officials, department leaders, and staff members attended the day-long trainings.

Following the 2026 Legislative Session, this spring’s agenda focused on legislation impacting county government and helping counties prepare for the FY27 budget season. Attendees received updates on property tax budgeting, levy certification, and county budgeting processes, along with practical resources to support their work throughout the year.

One of the most popular sessions featured a panel of county elected officials moderated by IAC, where panelists shared real-world approaches for preparing and presenting county budget requests. The conversation sparked thoughtful discussion at every location and highlighted the value of peer-to-peer learning. IAC’s policy staff noted strong participation and engagement throughout the tour, with attendees asking insightful questions and contributing meaningful perspectives. A special thank you goes to all presenters and panelists who shared their time, expertise, and practical experience to strengthen this year’s trainings.

The Spring COI tour provided attendees with five COI credits, helping many members move closer to graduating from the County Officials Institute program. IAC is currently on track to recognize more than a dozen graduates during the 2026 IAC Annual Conference — an exciting milestone as IAC celebrates 50 years of service to Idaho’s counties. Graduates can continue their professional development through the Advanced COI track, which requires an additional 35 course credits.

If you missed this spring’s training, presentation slide decks are available here on IAC’s website. For questions about legislation, content, and policy resources, please contact IAC’s policy staff. We look forward to seeing everyone at the 2026 IAC Annual Conference as we celebrate IAC’s 50th anniversary under this year’s theme: 44 Counties. One Idaho. 50 Years of Impact. Get ready to celebrate a legacy of service, strengthen your COI transcript, and prepare for the future alongside county leaders from across the state.
