Few people have left a legacy like Latah County Prosecutor, Bill Thompson has. He is the longest serving prosecutor in Idaho, dedicating 34 years to the State of Idaho and Latah County. Bill has long been involved with the Idaho Association of Counties (IAC), serving as IAC’s president, the chair of the IAC Justice & Public Safety Committee. Bill has been one of IAC’s most dependable educators and has taught more trainings on Transparency in Government and the County Prosecutor as the County’s Civil Advisor than one can even begin to count.

Bill was the inaugural recipient of IAC’s Dan Chadwick Ethics in Government award, the 2011 IAC recipient of the H. Sydney Duncombe Award for County Excellence, and the Idaho Prosecuting Attorneys Association (IPAA) selected him as their choice to receive the Mills-Adler Award in 2004. He is the only county elected officials in the history of the Idaho Association of Counties to be selected for all three awards.
The Idaho Association of Counties is lucky to have worked alongside Bill Thompson for so man years and are wishing him the best in his retirement. A retirement celebration is being held for Bill on Friday, December 4, 2026. The invitation can be viewed below.
