The Idaho Sheriffs’ Association (ISA) and the Idaho Jail Administrators Association (IJAA) held their 2023 Spring Conference at the Sun Valley Resort from May 9 – 11. The event drew sheriffs, jail administrators, and deputies from around Idaho for presentations and training from subject matter experts, roundtable discussions, business meetings, committee reports, awards, and more. Additionally, the conference hosted a variety of high-level sponsors and dozens of vendors with ample networking opportunities.

Keynote presentations included “Use of Force/Liability” by Providence, Rhode Island Attorney Jack Ryan, Legal & Liability Risk Management Institute (LLRMI) co-director and Captain (Ret), as well as “Media Crisis” presented by Laura Cole, president of Cole Pro Media. Additional workshops focused on counterfeit drugs, child protections, and VINE trainings.

There were also awards presented to dedicated members like Cindy Malm, who received an appreciation/retirement plaque for her many years of service as a jail inspector from Clearwater County Sheriff Chris Goetz. Goetz is also the ISA president.

Man Up Crusade, founded by Canyon County Sheriff Kieran Donahue, is an organization whose mission is to reduce domestic violence and contribute to social change by promoting safe and healthy relationships through education, advocacy. Partnering with the Western States Sheriffs’ Association (WSSA), whose goal is to help Sheriffs west of the Mississippi River navigate unique and regional issues, the two associations created a belt buckle with the words “Taking A Stand Against Domestic Violence” engraved. The buckle also featured both the ISA and the Man Up Crusade logos. The custom buckle was included in the conference’s silent auction and was proudly won by Bingham County Sheriff Jeff Gardner.
