The IAC Legislative Committee met in-person for the second time this legislative session on February 11th, 2026 at IAC’s downtown office. Those unable to attend in-person attended virtually.
After the approval of the February 4th, 2026 minutes, discussion of legislation impacting county operations was underway. Many topics were discussed, ranging from fiscal transparency and public safety, to local land use planning and protecting local authority. The committee also reviewed IAC’s priorities this session, including bills such as H0556, dealing with state inmates in county jails. Important progress being made on NextGen e911 fee structures as well as draft legislation regarding unfunded state mandates and fiscal transparency was also mentioned. Additionally, H0620 was discussed, which aims to strengthen local officials’ involvement in federal land use decision making and codifying the expertise of county commissioners in those decisions. IAC’s Legislative Committee is highly dedicated to ensuring counties retain their ability to provide necessary services to their communities, and a lot of work has already been done this session to protect local authority and fight for much needed funding to continue to provide service to the public.
The Legislative Committee meets every Wednesday during the legislative session, switching between virtual and in-person formats. View members of IAC’s Legislative Committee here and see what positions the committee has taken on bills here.
