If you’re passionate about county governance and want to help guide critical policy discussions in Idaho, now is the time to act. The Idaho Association of Counties (IAC) is accepting applications for membership on up to two steering committees for the 2025 year. The deadline to sign up for currently elected county officials is December 31, 2024. For newly elected county officials, the deadline to sign up is February 1, 2025. Please keep in mind that county elected officials must sign up every year to be members of an IAC steering committee.

Steering committees are vital to IAC’s mission, providing a forum for collaboration, innovation, and problem-solving on the most pressing issues facing Idaho counties. Here’s a brief look at the committees you can join:

  1. Intergovernmental Affairs Committee

Focus: County organizational structure, management, and intergovernmental relations

This committee addresses elections, government liability issues, government transparency, and fostering communication between counties, cities, special purpose, and state and federal governments. It’s the perfect platform for those interested in improving government efficiency and creating meaningful partnerships across all levels of government.

  1. Infrastructure, Land Use, & Transportation Committee

Focus: Infrastructure, transportation, and land use issues

This committee explores infrastructure at the county level, including energy, broadband expansion, solid waste disposal, airport development, land use planning, transportation planning, and other modes of transportation and improvements, helping shape Idaho’s future connectivity and infrastructure.

  1. Justice and Public Safety Committee

Focus: Criminal justice and public safety

If you’re passionate about law enforcement, courts, corrections, crime prevention, criminal justice planning, common law and civil law matters, public safety communications, jails, juvenile justice, or delinquency prevention, this committee allows you to work on policies that ensure safer communities and a fairer justice system.

  1. Public Lands & Natural Resources Committee

Focus: Federal and state land management and natural resources

This committee tackles issues like tax immunity on public lands, endangered species, environment, conservation, resource management, and state and federal land management programs. It’s an excellent opportunity for those dedicated to protecting Idaho’s natural beauty, resources, and multi-use capabilities while supporting county interests.

  1. Revenue & Taxation Committee

Focus: County revenues and financial sustainability

This committee delves into taxation, federal assistance, grants, municipal borrowing, county financial resources, county revenues, county administrative fees, and taxation administration and powers, making it an excellent choice for those who want to ensure counties have the financial resources they need to fulfill responsibilities mandated by the state.
