2024 Elections Conference Recap

The Secretary of State’s office and the Idaho Association of County Recorders and Clerks (IACRC) enjoyed election training at the Riverside Hotel from January 3-5, 2024. The conference covered the latest election trends, information, technologies, and hands-on training with elections software. Secretary of State Phil McGrane kicked off the meeting by announcing a proclamation from Governor Brad Little, officially declaring January 3rd, 2024, as Elections Administrator Day. 

The proclamation said, “The State of Idaho recognizes the critical role that election officials play in safeguarding the integrity of our electoral system and ensuring the voice of the people is heard.” 

Secretary McGrane said, “Idaho’s elections stand out because of the dedicated county clerks and election officials who work tirelessly to ensure every vote counts. The annual Elections Conference is a unique opportunity for our county clerks and election officials to gather and exchange insights and experiences and learn together in a space that is constantly evolving. We have significant elections coming up in 2024, and this year’s Elections Conference was a great opportunity to kick things off so that we’re all working together to ensure Idahoans can have confidence in how our elections are run.” 

The conference covered signature verification training, cyber navigation policies, presidential election best practices, and more. The final day included courses reviewing how candidates and parties get on the ballot, the requirements for ballot access, initiatives, petitions, forms, and forms processing.

Doug Miller, IACRC President and Valley County Clerk gave his thoughts on the conference, stating, “The Elections Conference is always a great opportunity to bring together the Idaho Secretary of State’s Office and the Idaho Association of County Recorders and Clerks. The conference allows our county elections administrators to receive up-to-date training, vital to ensuring continued safeguarding and success during our elections.”
