Sara Westbrook has served as the Director of Government Affairs at the Idaho Association of Counties (IAC) for five years. With over a decade of experience in Idaho politics, Sara plays a pivotal role in assisting the executive director by overseeing policy development, research and analysis, legislative advocacy efforts, and cultivating relationships with government entities at all levels. Her work fosters strong communication between members and policymakers, ensuring transparency and driving engagement.
During the legislative session, Sara hosts weekly legislative webinar updates with members, providing them with timely and relevant information. She reports on legislative outcomes, providing legislative updates to the membership, further enhancing transparency. Her work ensures the effective pursuit of IAC’s policy objectives.
Sara’s role at IAC extends beyond policy development and legislative advocacy. She is actively involved in member education, coordinating with other IAC staff to develop and implement the IAC County Officials Institute program, and she aids in sourcing speakers and trainers for IAC events. Sara oversees member technical assistance and presents training sessions at various conferences, affiliate meetings, district meetings, and webinars. She serves as staff liaison to the IAC Legislative Committee and two IAC policy committees.
When she’s not strategizing about the next legislative session or traveling around the state visiting different counties, Sara enjoys spending time with her family. You can often find her curled up in her rocking chair on the front porch with her Kindle or belting Broadway show tunes at the top of her lungs with her daughters.
