The Idaho Sheriffs’ Association (ISA) held their New Sheriffs School from December 9-13, 2024 in Boise, Idaho. This event brought together over 120 sheriffs, lieutenants, jail administrators, and over 55 companies supporting the show as corporate sponsors and exhibitors. All together, 43 out of Idaho’s 44 counties were represented, showcasing the strong commitment to collaboration and professional growth across the state.
This unique five-day event is a state-mandated training for newly elected sheriffs, designed to provide essential knowledge, foster connections, and share valuable resources. Co-hosted with the Idaho Jail Administrators’ Association (IJAA), the conference offered two specialized tracks tailored to the diverse roles of attendees.
The 2024 New Sheriffs School featured an impressive lineup of expert speakers who delivered insights on topics such as crisis management, effective communication with law enforcement and the public, executive leadership, budgeting, statutory responsibilities of sheriffs, jail liability and risk management, legal updates, and more.
The event culminated at the ISA/IJAA Annual Banquet and Officer Installation. Lt. Governor Scott Bedke delivered a powerful keynote address, highlighting the importance of collaboration and teamwork among Idaho’s public safety leaders.
The evening concluded with the swearing-in of officers, marking a moment of renewal and leadership for the associations. The ISA’s executive committee for 2024 – 2025 includes: President Sheriff Sam Hulse (Bonneville County); First Vice-President Sheriff Dave Hansen (Butte County); Second Vice President Sheriff Tony Manu (Bannock County); Secretary Sheriff Ryan Zollman (Adams County); Director at Large Sheriff Shaun Gough (Gooding County); and Past President Sheriff Bart Heslington (Bear Lake County).
IJAA’s executive committee is as follows: President Mike LaCroix (Valley County); First Vice-President Doug Hughes (Twin Falls County); Second Vice-President Captain Jeremy Hyle (Kootenai County); Secretary Lt. Shannon Taylor (Cassia County); and Past President Harold Patchett (Canyon County).
