IAC Resource Spotlight – Natural Resource Litigation Fund

23 Oct 2025, by Clay Boeckel Share :

The Idaho Association of Counties’ Natural Resource Litigation Fund was established to ensure participating counties have the financial support and unified voice needed to defend their interests in matters involving federal land management, natural resource policy, and related litigation. The fund enables contributing countries to participate collectively in legal actions that protect their authority, access to public lands, and fair distribution of resource-related revenues, without incurring the financial burden alone.

By contributing to and supporting the fund, counties gain access to a coordinated, expert-driven legal response to issues that would otherwise exceed individual county resources. Continued investment ensures that Idaho’s counties remain strong advocates for balanced, responsible use of natural resources and the preservation of local government’s voice in land and resource decisions that directly impact their residents.

Eligible Costs

Costs related to expert witnesses, outside appraisals, additional legal services (other than Prosecuting Attorney) and court preparation costs (depositions, exhibits, charts, etc.) are eligible for the usage of the funds. An application, guidelines and criteria are available through IAC. The IAC Board shall have final approval over any disbursement of funds.
