Week Five: Idaho Legislative Session

As the Idaho Legislative Session progresses, several bills and policy discussions are shaping the future for counties across the state. Here’s a breakdown of the latest developments and how they impact county governments.

Top Priorities:

– Public Notices (H0166) – A revised version was introduced this week. This new version would allow local governments to publish a shortened notice with a link to their website to the full notice. Then in 2027, local governments would be allowed to publish notices on the state’s website. Please reach out to your House members and ask them to support House Bill 166.

– Consolidated Elections (IGA-07) – This bill is being RS’d with LSO right now. We are optimistic that this bill will be introduced next week. 

– Tourism Tax (IGA-10) – The importance of funding critical public safety services is beginning to resonate in the House. We continue to work on this issue and are emphasizing the need to be able to use this to help with other important needs impacted by tourism, including roads.

– Procurement & Responsible Bidder (IGA-11) – Draft legislation is nearly ready for introduction.

– Public Defense Reform (IGA-13) – Discussions continue on this critical issue.
