It was an honor to represent the Idaho Association of Counties (IAC) at the National Council of County Association Executives (NCCAE) Presidents and Executives Meeting in Washington D.C. from January 8-10, 2025. The conference brought together county leaders from across the nation for a series of discussions, presentations, and events whose aim was to strengthen partnerships, explore leadership strategies, and engage on key policy topics that impact local governments.

One of the major themes of the week was disaster resilience, which was quite topical given the recent devastating wildfires on the West Coast. As a group, we explored the difficulties counties and citizens have with skyrocketing insurance costs, continuing increases in population growth and development, as well as the impediments of receiving disaster relief when tragedy befalls one of our local communities. IAC Executive Director Seth Grigg, was chosen to lead a panel discussion that explored emerging trends in state-level policies and their impacts on counties.

My overall impression of the week culminated in an appreciation that we may be a nation of diverse interests, people, and geography, but there is unity when it comes to attempting to provide our citizens with the services that they expect from their local government. I look forward to seeing you all at our Midwinter Conference at the end of January.
