The Idaho Association of County Assessors (IACA) met for their annual conference in beautiful McCall, Idaho, from August 20-22, 2024 at the Evergreen Hotel. Stacy Swift, Adams County Assessor and IACA President, together with the Idaho Association of Counties (IAC), did an amazing job planning the conference.
The event was attended by assessors from all over the state along with the Idaho State Tax Commission (ISTC) – Property Tax Division, Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) – Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Division, and Megan Wheatley and Wilma Robertson from the Idaho Office of Information Technology Services (ITS). Vendors in attendance included GovPros, Point & Pay, EagleView, Tyler Technologies, XTR Consulting, and Aumentum Technologies.
There was lively discussion at the conference, including a request from ITS for counties’ Geographic Information System (GIS) facilitators to aid with transparency across Idaho. Other presentations and discussions included: property tax administrative rule changes, timber and agriculture valuations, appraisal software, appraisal education, public utility valuations and the 4R act, Idaho’s DMV roadmap for the future; as well as a great presentation on all of Idaho’s property tax exemptions by Alan Dornfest.
During the conference, Lincoln County Assessor Linda Jones announced that she will be retiring in November. Linda has served as an assessor since 2007. Linda was presented with a hammer for her years of dedication and service and for always being known to “bring the hammer to the table” as she doesn’t shy away from tough conversations. Linda will truly be missed by her IACA family.
To conclude the 2024 Assessors Conference, the new IACA Board of Directors were sworn in. Elmore County Assessor Josh Dison was selected by the nominating committee as the IACA historian, Jefferson County Assessor Jessica Roach was sworn in as the IACA Treasurer, Gem County Assessor Hollie Ann Strang was sworn in as the IACA Secretary, Canyon County Assessor Brian Stender was sworn in as the IACA Vice President, Gooding County Assessor Justin Baldwin was sworn in as the IACA President, and Adams County Assessor Stacy Swift moved to IACA Immediate Past President.
