IAC Announces Scholarship Awards

Idaho Association of Counties announces the 2016 recipients of the IAC Scholarship. Seven Idaho students have received a $1,000 scholarship from the Idaho Association of Counties. They are:

  • Austyn Gunderson, a freshman at Lewis and Clark State College, is the recipient of the IAC Scholarship for District 1 . Austyn is the daughter of Florence Gunderson, an employee in the Shoshone County Prosecutors office.
  • Ryan Heideman, a freshman at the University of Idaho, is the recipient of the IAC Scholarship for District 2. Ryan is the son of Julia Stapleton, who works in the Lewis County 4-H Program.
  • Payton Armstrong, a freshman at Smith College, is the recipient of the IAC Scholarship for District 3. Payton is the daughter of Shelley Akamatsu, who works in the Ada County Prosecutors office.
  • Baylee Zanone, a sophomore at College of Southern Idaho, is the recipient of the IAC Scholarship for District 4. Baylee is the daughter of Kris Zanone, who works in the Twin Falls County Clerks office.
  • Mason Fotlz, a freshman at the College of Southern Idaho, is the recipient of the IAC Scholarship for District 5. Mason is the son of Thomas Foltz, who works for the Bannock County Sheriffs office.
  • Camas Neville, a freshman at the University of Montana Western, is the recipient of the IAC Scholarship for District 6. Camas is the son of Jeremie Neville, who works for the Jefferson County Road and Bridge Department.
  • Cody Root, a freshman at Lewis and Clark State College, is the recipient of the Bob McKenzie Memorial Scholarship (At-large). Cody is the son of Steven Root, who works in the Twin Falls County Assessors office.

The fund was created to provide scholarships to children of county elected officials, county employees, and grandchildren of county elected officials.  County elected officials and employees contribute to the fund through personal donations and other fund raising efforts such as auctions.

This is the seventeenth year scholarships have been awarded. With the extraordinary efforts of county elected officials, county employees and corporate sponsors, the IAC Scholarship Fund went from two scholarships awarded in the first year to eight this year.  The final selection was made from a pool of 52 applicants.
